Stacked for Success

Stacked for Success is an augmented reality poster created for an English teacher at Doral Academy Preparatory High School to promote Advanced Placement language and literature courses at the school’s annual academic fair. Using the Artivive app, viewers can activate an animated layer in which the top book flips through its pages, transforming the static poster into an engaging, interactive display designed to draw students to the booth and spark curiosity.

Concept & Research
This poster was developed to support the AP department’s goal of helping students understand how the AP program works, what is expected in AP Language and AP Literature, and how these courses prepare students for future academic success. Inspired by common school-themed visuals and hand-drawn classroom aesthetics, I designed a background filled with doodles and sketches related to grammar, language, and learning.
After seeing my thesis AR project, the teacher requested that I incorporate an augmented element to make the poster more interactive and appealing to students through technology. The title “Stacked for Success” references the physical stack of books, the layered academic preparation of AP courses, and the visual stacking of the text itself. A warm, earthy color palette of greens, browns, and muted pinks was chosen to evoke a cozy, inviting atmosphere associated with reading and learning.

Design & Process
I created all illustrations and animations in layered files to ensure seamless integration with the augmented experience. The process began with exploratory sketches centered on the idea of an open book that would animate through AR. After the teacher selected a direction, I presented multiple color variations before finalizing the palette and layout.
To accommodate the AR animation, I designed two versions of the background: one for the static poster and another that filled in negative space behind the animated books. The entire project was completed within one week of a two-week deadline, allowing time for animation refinement and testing.

Tools: Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, Artivive
Role: Concept development, illustration, animation, AR integration
Workflow: Iterative sketching, color testing, layered animation production, AR testing, and final print preparation

Exhibition & Outcome
The poster was displayed at the school’s annual academic fair at the English department booth, accompanied by an iPad that allowed visitors to activate the AR layer. Both teachers and students responded positively to the interactive feature, noting how the animation and technology made the display more engaging and memorable.
This project strengthened my approach to color selection and visual hierarchy, and reinforced the importance of intentional design choices from iconography and layout to palette and motion.
